Z Due

2018/19 winners Z Due impressed the judges with an excellent collection of work converted from offset and gravure to flexo, enhanced using the company’s own BlueEdge screening technology. The judges noted the close collaboration between Z Due and its printer customers, and complimented the company on expanding the applications for BlueEdge beyond the original corrugated sector into other substrates.

Mondi Halle GmbH, Werner & Mertz GmbH, Knecht GmbH and Flexicon AG

Mondi Halle worked with its partners to create a genuinely innovative design of pouch to improve recyclability and sustainability. Features included a funnel composed of the same material as the body of the pouch. This allowed 100% recyclability, with the ability to remove the printed layer prior to recycling, and eliminating glueing and lamination from the production process.

CR Serigrafia Srl & Esbe Srl

An excellent example of direct printing onto rigid packaging, the judges commented on the quality of the printing on the plastic substrate, the time savings due to faster set-up, and the reduced complexity of separations due to minimized wet ink trapping. The package was produced on a new Omso press, the first installation in Europe, signalling a commitment to packaging print innovation by Esbe.

Papierfabrik Palm GmbH

Joint entry with Co KG, D&W Flexo-Manufaktur GmbH & Co, Osterwieck, and Side plant Seyfert GmbH & Reichenbach and der Fils

A cooperative effort that created an impactful and novel packaging design: a cardboard bag that can easily be transformed into a cardboard box. The entry employed an innovative, patented package construction to provide a striking alternative to plastic bags at the checkout, where storage space is limited.

Rotoplast d.o.o

A gravure to flexo conversion to meet the client’s requirement for new packaging that would be different, more innovative and stand out on the market. After a year of experimenting with different approaches, Rotoplast created a ten-color design with a paper-touch varnish finishing effect – previously the preserve of gravure and a novel flexo achievement.
